Overview
Actura is an enterprise-grade actuarial platform that bridges the gap between complex risk mathematics and modern UI/UX. It provides actuaries and risk engineers with a powerful Python-based valuation engine paired with a sleek, neo-skeuomorphic Vue 3 dashboard.
Problem
Actuarial software often lacks modern interfaces. The challenge was bridging the gap between complex risk mathematics (Monte Carlo simulations, IFRS 17 trajectories) and an intuitive, modern UI/UX for actuaries.
Solution
Developed a visual, node-based DAG (Directed Acyclic Graph) editor for designing insurance cash flow blueprints without writing code. This is paired with a powerful stochastic engine for calculating BEL, VaR 95%, and CVaR / CTE 95.
Architecture & Core Systems
Decoupled architecture utilizing a Vue 3 SPA for graph interactions and charting, backed by a FastAPI REST API for math-heavy actuarial modeling. PostgreSQL is used via SQLAlchemy for data persistence, all containerized with Docker and served via Nginx.
Technical Implementation
Actura evaluates insurance cash flows as a Directed Acyclic Graph (DAG), seamlessly mapping out premiums, benefits, and decrement models.
Challenges
Building a high-performance backend capable of rapid deterministic and stochastic valuations while maintaining a responsive, complex visual node editor on the frontend.
Results
A fully containerized, IFRS 17-ready architecture that provides immediate, production-like deployment capabilities.
Lessons Learned
Visual, node-based editors provide a highly intuitive and powerful interface for mapping out complex financial and insurance logic compared to traditional code-heavy setups.
